Greg Emslie Wins ASP Cold Water Classic: South Africa
by: Bintern

Greg EmslieSouth African pride. It looks like South African surfers continue to dominate on their own turf. After local boy Jordy Smith took J-Bay a few weeks back, the pressure was on for SA natives in the O'Neill Cold Water Classic four-star event. Greg Emslie of East London, South Africa stepped up to the challenge to defeat Australian Dion Atkinson in the finals.

This is the first time that a native has won the Cold Water Classic event in South Africa, and the home crowd was loving it. Conditions were decent after some wild surf last week. But despite the shining sun, the event lived up to its name with frigid waters.

South Africa was the third of five stops for the Cold Water Classic, which continues October 9 from Tofino, Canada. Series rankings put another South Africa native, Royden Bryson, on top, followed by Australians Stuart Kennedy, Shaun Cansdell, and Dion Atkinson. Check out full coverage of the CWC including video, photos, and results on ASP or the O'Neill website.
